Denmark and the United States Agree to Closer Cooperation on Renewable Energy

U.S Department of Energy's Assistant Secretary Alexander "Andy" Karsner and Dan Arvizu, Director of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) were in Denmark June 26 and 27 to learn from Danish experts and share American approaches to the development of new energy sources.

Among the highlights of the visit was the signing of an agreement for increased cooperation between NREL and RISØ, the Danish national energy research institute. According to Assistant Secretary Karsner, this is the first such agreement with a foreign partner.

Assistant Secretary Karsner also met with Danish Minister of Transport and Energy Flemming Hansen, and Ministry of Environment Permanent Secretary Erik Jacobsen, as well as CEOs of Novozymes, the largest enzyme producer in the world, and Vestas, a world leader in wind energy.

In a keynote address to representatives from the Danish energy sector and government officials, Assistant Secretary Karsner underlined U.S. commitment and determination to find solutions to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.
