Ambassador Cain Discusses Climate Change on DR1
Ambassador Cain discussed the U.S. stance on addressing the challenge of global climate change on national TV station DR1's December 3 prime-time evening news. Ambassador Cain and anchor Kim Bildsøe Lassen discussed what the U.S. would like to see come out of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bali. Ambassador Cain said that the U.S. is committed to reaching consensus on a roadmap in Bali leading to an agreement and that the U.S. is ready to lead the way to an effective agreement being signed in Copenhagen in 2009. Ambassador Cain stressed the importance of having developing countries, China and India chief among them, on board for an agreement that allows for economic growth. He also noted that, in the past year, the U.S. has managed to decrease greenhouse gas emissions by 1.5%. In response to a question from Kim Bildsøe Lassen, Ambassador Cain emphasized that what matters for the U.S. is achieving an agreement that is effective in reducing emissions, not winning international popularity.
