Ambassador Cain Joins Integration Minister Rikke Hvilshøj at Street Basketball Finals
Copenhagen
August 18, 2007
Ambassador Cain and Integration Minister Rikke Hvilshøj took in the street scene at the GAM3 street basketball finals in Town Hall Square August 18. More than 121 teams and 600 players -- 21 one of them girls teams -- competed for titles in eight different divisions. Basketball was the centerpiece, but there was much more. There was a breakdance competition (7-2-Smoke) organized by GAM3 partner "To the Beat." There was also street food and street gear (including a street clothing exchange). In addition to the team competition, GAM3 organized a slam dunk contest for the Danish players who can take it to the hoop with attitude. The street scene in the heart of Copenhagen drew thousands of spectators. The crowd could watch the action on a giant screen provided by the American Chamber of Commerce in Denmark. The Integration Ministry is a major GAM3 sponsor. The U.S. Embassy supports GAM3 by sponsoring the participation of NBA and WNBA players in the June street GAM3 events in multiethnic neighborhoods. The Embassy also sponsored the participation of American break and hip-hop dancers Isaac Barron and Rosie Bichon from Houston, Texas.
