New Years Toast at the Embassy

New Years Eve in front of the  U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen was a bit different this year. At approximately 09:45 PM about 140 students who were celebrating the new year at the near by dormitory "Hagemanns Kollegium" showed up in front of the Embassy to toast in the New Year. Just before Christmas, the Embassy was contacted by a student from Hagemanns Kollegium, who wanted to hear if they could come by the Embassy and have a New Years toast. What better way to celebrate the close ties between Denmark and the United States than a New Years toast in front of the Embassy? The Embassy supplied the drinks and in return the students sang The Star Spangled Banner.

Representing the Embassy were political officer Michael Benton and Philip Holten from Public Affairs. Michael Benton gave a short speech noting the importance of the good relations between Denmark and the United States. After singing the national anthem everybody wished each other a Happy New Year and the students returned to their party, stopping at the Russian embassy for a similar event.
