Ambassador Cain Visits Avedøre Power Plant

Avedøre, Copenhagen
June 27, 2007

On June 27 Ambassador Cain was welcomed by Dong Energy CEO Anders Eldrup and Senior Director Bent Petri at the Avedøre Power Plant south of Copenhagen. Avedøre Power Station consists of two units that use a wide variety of fuels from coal to natural gas, oil and biofuels such as straw and wood pellets. The power station supplies electricity for 1.3 million households in Northern Europe and district heating for 200,000 households in the greater Copenhagen area. By simultaneously generating heat and electricity, Unit 2 is as much as 94% efficient in the burning of fuel and has an electrical output efficiency of 49%, making it one of the world's most energy-efficient combined heat and power plants.
