Scandic Hotel
September 16, 2005
U.S. Ambassador James Cain met with Copenhagen Police Commander Per Larsen on September 16 to congratulate the Danish National Police and the Copenhagen Police for their role in the successful international undercover operation that resulted in the recovery of Rembrandt's "Self Portrait," which was stolen from a Swedish museum in 2000.
Using information provided to the FBI by sources, an FBI undercover agent posed as an art dealer in a sting operation that resulted in the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of the Rembrandt painting.
Ambassador Cain said: "The undercover operation that resulted in the recovery of Rembrandt's "Self Portrait" is a perfect example of international law enforcement cooperation involving the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, Danish National Police, the Copenhagen Police, and the Stockholm County Police. We look forward to more opportunities for cooperation in the future"
