Seventh Annual Honora Rankine-Galloway Lecture Featuring Dr. Eric Foner: "The Idea of Freedom in the United States: Before and After September 11"

University of Southern Denmark
November 1, 2006

The Embassy co-sponsored the Seventh Annual Honora Rankine-Galloway lecture at the Center for American Studies at the University of Southern Denmark on November 1, 2006. The lecture was given by well-known American historian Dr. Eric Foner, who is a professor of history at Columbia University. Dr. Foner spoke on "The Idea of Freedom in the United States: Before and After September 11" and then engaged in a lively discussion with a standing-room only crowd of over 200 faculty and students.

Richard Johannsen, Cultural Attache at the U.S. Embassy, also presented the annual "Honora" student award to Julia Winding for her outstanding performance as a student at the Center for American Studies. The Annual Honora Rankine-Galloway lecture is held in honor of former American Embassy Cultural Attache, Honora Rankine-Galloway, now deceased, who was instrumental in establishment of the Center for American Studies at the University of Southern Denmark in 1992.
