DIIS Hosts Conference on NATO-transformation
Copenhagen
October 30-31, 2006
Stuart Seldowitz, Political Advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels, addressed a distinguished audience at a two-day conference on October 30-31 organized by the Danish Institute for International Studies on "Transforming NATO: Risks, Challenges and Opportunities."
Speaking to over 100 conference participants in a session of the conference dedicated to the subject of NATO enlargement, Seldowitz predicted that NATO enlargement will continue despite not being on the agenda of the upcoming Riga Summit. While acknowleging the desire of some of NATO's European members that NATO enlargement be linked to EU enlargement, Seldowitz dismissed the idea of "enlargement fatigue" and said "enlargement has been a success and has given NATO a net plus in capabilities."
