Welcome Reception for 2006-2007 Fulbright Students and Scholars

Deputy Chief of Mission's Residence, Charlottenlund
August 24, 2006

In what has become a yearly tradition, Deputy Chief of Mission Sandra Kaiser held a welcome reception for this year's incoming American Fulbright students and scholars as part of their arrival orientation in Denmark. The Fulbrighters' Danish institutional contacts, former Danish Fulbrighters to the United States, and the Danish-American Fulbright Commission and Board also attended.

Established in 1946, the Fulbright Program aims to increase mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and other countries, through the exchange of persons, knowledge, and skills. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the host country, the Fulbright Program provides funding for students, scholars, and professionals to undertake graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary, and secondary schools.

This year's eight American Fulbright students will be spread across the country, studying at the University of Copenhagen, Roskilde University, the University of Århus, University of Southern Denmark (Odense and Sønderborg campuses), and the Technical University of Denmark in fields ranging from biotechnology to Danish poetry. Fulbright scholar Dr. Roger Congleton (George Mason University) will be the American Studies Chair at the Department of Political Science at the University of Southern Denmark, while Fulbright Scholar Dr. Julie Ann Mertus (American University) will be a research scholar at the Danish Institute for Human Rights.
