Ambassador Cain and Integration Minister Rikke Hvilshøj Join NBA and WNBA Stars at Street Basketball Clinic in Vollsmose
Vollsmose, Odense
July 3, 2006
Ambassador Cain and Integration Minister Rikke Hvilshøj joined Denver Nuggets center Francisco Elson and WNBA star Andrea Stinson for the July 3 opening of the GAM3 street basketball clinic in Vollsmose, an immigrant neighborhood in Odense.
More than 150 young people were on hand to watch the NBA and WNBA stars test Ambassador Cain and the Minister in a passing drill.
The Embassy is supporting GAM3 -- an NGO that runs an integration-focused summer street basketball program -- with three NBA and two WNBA players for basketball clinics in ethnically diverse neighborhoods in Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense. NBA legend George Gervin, Atlanta Hawks guard-forward Josh Childress and WNBA star Carla McGhee participated in a June 30 clinic in Copenhagen's Nørrebro neighborhood. Elson and Stinson conducted a July 4th clinic in Aarhus' Gellerup neighborhood and wrapped up their three-day program with a July 5 session in Copenhagen's Nørrebro section. Our support for GAM3 continues in August when the Houston-based hip-hop act "HaviKoro" will perform at the GAM3 street basketball finals in Copenhagen's Town Hall Square.
