Ambassador Cain Talks Climate Change on TV2
Copenhagen, Denmark
May 31, 2007
Getting out quickly to reinforce the President's message of U.S. leadership on climate change, Ambassador Cain did an interview on TV2's 24-hour news on May 31, just hours after the President's speech. The Ambassador responded to criticism that the President's initiative was designed to undermine the German climate change initiative at the G8, emphasizing that the administration's approach reaches beyond the G8 to include all major emitters. He stressed that while there may be differences on the details, the U.S. like Germany is committed to putting climate change at the top of the G8 agenda. When asked about how the President's initiative can be squared with U.S. rejection of the Kyoto Accord, Ambassador Cain highlighted the concrete progress the U.S. is making in reducing emissions, the amount we are investing in climate change research, and our commitment to assuming a leadership role in creating a post-Kyoto framework for dealing with climate change.
