During the week of September 21 Copenhagen’s Open Gymnasium hosted the Copenhagen Youth Climate Camp for student from all over Europe. The format of the camp is similar to Model UN events, where students are divided into different countries and then asked to negotiate a deal on behalf of that country. As the name implies the focus of this camp was climate change.

US Embassy Copenhagen worked with the Open Gymnasium to “Americanize” the U.S. team’s room with flags, photos and of course information material on U.S. energy- and climate policies and initiatives. On Wednesday September 23, representatives from the Embassy’s ESTH Office and Public Affairs Office went to the school to help the U.S. team prepare for the upcoming negotiations. The U.S. team presented what they had found out so far and the embassy staff provided them with additional input including the text of the speech delivered by President Obama at the UN General Assembly the day before.

The students had many questions about U.S. policies and, of course, about the upcoming COP15 in Copenhagen. At the End of the session ESTH Specialist Bo Gregersen was interviewed by the Climate Camp’s media section.
