Trafficking in Persons Report 2009

The U.S. Congress, through its passage of the 2000 Trafficking Victims Protection Act, requires the Secretary of State to submit an annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report to Congress.  The goal of this Report is to create partnerships around the world in the fight against modern-day slavery.  All countries determined to be a country of origin, transit, or destination for victims of severe forms of trafficking are included in the Report.  Information for the annual Report is based on information from U.S. embassies, foreign government officials, NGOs and international organizations, published reports, and research trips to every region.

In the 2009 TIP Report, Denmark is classified as a Tier 1 country, which indicates that the Government of Denmark fully complies with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking.  Over the past year, Denmark has sustained its strong law enforcement efforts, has provided funding for medical assistance, shelter, legal assistance and rehabilitative counseling for trafficked victims, and has also begun to work with the International Organization of Migration to help with safe repatriation of victims.
