Lost and Stolen "Green Cards"

Lost or Stolen "Green Cards"

The Embassy cannot provide replacement "green cards" -- it can only provide emergency travel letters (Transportation Letters).  VISIT THE IMMIGRANT VISA UNIT DURING OUR WALK-IN HOURS If your alien resident card ("green card") has been lost or stolen, you will need to visit the Immigrant Visa Unit in person during our walk-in hours (Please see "Contact Information" for current walk-in hours).

Appointments are not required for services rendered during walk-in hours.

TRANSPORTATION LETTERS

When applying for a transportation letter, please bring the following items:

• A valid passport (if your passport has also been lost/stolen, you must obtain a new passport or other travel document before seeing us);

• 2 recent passport size photographs;

• Original + 1 copy of the police report filed in connection with your loss;

• Credible evidence of your alien resident status;

• Airline ticket (evidence of travel from and back to the U.S.); and

• $165 nonrefundable Transportation Letter application fee.

The transportation letter application fee will not be refunded in the event that the consular officer determines you are ineligible for the Transportation Letter. Payment is accepted in cash (US$ or D.kr.), Danish check or credit card - the current exchange rate can be verified on our website:

http://denmark.usembassy.gov

PROCESSING TIME

Because of the need to complete processing on each application, we cannot guarantee same-day processing.  We will contact you at a Danish telephone number when the Transportation Letter is ready for pickup (we do not make long distance calls outside Denmark).

A Transportation Letter is valid for no more than 14 days and is intended for direct travel back to the U.S.  If you plan to spend time in some other country before returning to the U.S., you should apply for the Transportation Letter in the country where you plan to depart from to fly back to the U.S.

REPLACEMENT "GREEN CARDS"

For information on how to replace your lost/stolen/expired "green card" upon reentering the U.S., please consult the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website for detailed instructions (www.uscis.gov – See Form I-90).
