New Nonimmigrant Visa Form, DS-160

The U.S. Embassy Copenhagen now uses the new DS-160, Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, and no longer accepts the old DS-156 form.  The DS-160 is a fully integrated, on-line application form that collects the necessary application information from persons seeking a nonimmigrant visa.  This information is then submitted electronically to the Department of State via the Internet.  Consular Officers will electronically access the application and use the information entered on the DS-160 to process the visa application and, combined with a personal interview, will determine an applicant’s eligibility for a nonimmigrant visa.

For general information about filling out the DS160, please view the DS160 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) at Travel.State.Gov, the Department of State’s main web site for international travelers.

For specific information related to applying in Copenhagen, please view Embassy Copenhagen’s DS160 FAQ.

Some of the significant improvements that will follow the introduction of the DS-160:

  • The DS-160 incorporates a number of forms currently used by nonimmigrant visa applicants—the DS-156, DS-157, DS-158, and DS-3032.  Eventually the DS-160 will also incorporate the DS-156E and DS-156K, consolidating all nonimmigrant application forms into one form.

  • Visa applicants will be able to upload a photo while completing the application.

  • Visa applicants will only need to print a one-page confirmation sheet to bring to their interview or submit with their application, rather than a varying number of application forms.

  • Applicants can save their application on their computer or removable media for future use.

The Embassy no longer accepts DS-156s for Applications!
