New Agreement to return Thule's Dundas area

February 20, 2003

The Royal Danish Government and the government of the United States have successfully concluded negotiations for the return of the Dundas peninsula, currently under control of Thule Air Base, to Denmark and the Greenland Home Rule Government.

The proposed agreement details the responsibilities of the various parties following the return of the area to Danish jurisdiction. The governments are now undertaking the preparations necessary to permit a memorandum of understanding to be signed.

The United States government is very pleased with this outcome. It is another example of the close cooperation between the United States and Denmark, and of constructive positive interaction with the Greenland Home Rule Government.
